Things We Hope To Achieve For Queensland Young Riders

- To open pathways from grass roots riders through to International representation by fostering individual talent through a number of programs.
General Information
'Young Riders' encompasses all riders from the age of 10 riding ponies (under 14.2hh) and from the age of 12 riding horses (14.2hh and over) until the age of 21. Riders in this age group are encouraged to participate in the sport of Dressage by attending competitions and striving to achieve the next level. The official Australian levels of dressage include: Preliminary, Novice, Elementary, Medium and Advanced. Beyond Advanced, the levels are dictated by the FEI (International Equestrian Federation) which include: Prix St George, Intermediate I, Intermediate II and Grand Prix. Furthermore, there are additional tests specific to Young Riders available at International competitions (eg - CDI-Y). There is more information below on the scale of competitions available:
*Qualification criteria for each competition is at the discretion of the Organising Committee of that competition.
*To be considered for the Queensland Young Rider Squad, at least 4 official results (from Novice/ Elementary – Grand Prix) from at least 3 events that are at least 2* (Regional Championships or above (note – only 1 Interschool score may be considered) must be achieved. Please check the latest Selection Criteria for all criteria.

Travel Subsidy
We offer a travel subsidy each year to any rider travelling interstate, up to $1,000 in total and no more than $200 per rider. At the end of the year riders are requested to make applications for this subsidy with proof of their travel and competition, to DQ Subcommittee - DQ, P.O.Box 1358, Coorparoo DC 4151

National Youth Development Squad
The National Youth Development Squad is selected from nominations. It is open to riders from the age of 16 to 25 that are competing at Medium at a minimum. Nomination forms are available on the EA National website.
