Vale John Arthur Deeks

Sadly, the equestrian world lost one of its stalwarts with the passing of John Arthur Deeks on 13th September this year after a long health battle. John was a long time compère of Vaulting competitions in South East Queensland including State and National Championships ever since his first announcing assignment in October 1991.

John was born in England in 1932 where he served with honour in the police force. When he emigrated to Australia, John continued his association with the police joining the Australian Federal Police and was rewarded for his distinctive service.

John became interested in Vaulting during his time at Arundel Park Riding For Disabled along with his wife Vaulting Judge Angie Deeks. Together they worked to build the sport of Vaulting in Queensland and nationally. Whenever comparing  an event John would make it his mission to personally know the horses and athletes so that he could announce with accuracy and offer his encouragement to all competitors. Vaulters felt very much at ease when John was on the microphone. John will be missed by many and leaves a huge void in the world of Vaulting.
