James Arkins wins Gatton World Cup
The Pryde’s Easifeed Gatton World Cup ran from 3 to 6 August 2017 and hosted a FEI Youth Olympics Qualifier, a Young Rider National Series and the Magic Millions World Cup event was a Certificate of Capability (COC).
This year’s event, sponsored by Pryde’s EasiFeed, had over $45,000 in cash and prizes on offer over the four days of competition, including quality riders on more than four hundred horses in 31 classes in absolutely perfect winter weather which was the envy of the interstate competitors.
The addition to this year’s program, the FEI World Jumping Challenge saw junior athletes from Australia and overseas, striving to attain a certificate of competency as the first step towards qualifying for the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires. William Dight claimed the win, followed by Cameron Moffat. Both were in impressive form, finishing on zero faults.
The event organisers worked tirelessly to create an inclusive event, offering classes for all level of rider’s from 65cm to the pinnacle World Cup Qualifying class to be held on Sunday. In between the classes covered all facets of the jumping fraternity with classes for young horses, young riders, future stars and of course the ever popular 1.30m Speed Championship.
James Arkins, NSW member, competing on DA VINCI'S PRIDE was in exceptional form winning the Magic Millions World Cup class at the 2017 Pryde's Easifeed Gatton World Cup from a field of twenty elite combinations.
James Arkins and Billy Raymont were the only two competitors in the class producing a clear first round and progressed to the jump off involving the top 12 qualifiers. Only James, onboard DA VINCI'S PRIDE and fellow Queenslander Billy Raymont riding ANTON jumped clear in the second round with two seconds separating the two riders.
Equestrian Queensland and Jumping Queensland thank all riders, sponsors and spectators for supporting the event and a special thanks to the dedicated team of organisers and sponsors whose contributions provided such a memorable experience.
