Queenslanders dominate at the Australian Championships
Every year, a stronger and stronger contingent of Queensland riders, make the trek south for the Australian Showjumping Championships, and 2017 was definitely not any different.
This year saw Queensland capitalise on last year’s performances and collectively come away with many placings and some major wins.
On Saturday night the event ran the highly anticpated Speed championship. As we all know Clem Smith just can’t say no to a good speed class, he saddled the favoural Guru and gave it his all to finish in 4th less than 3 seconds behind the leader.
In the Mini Prix final it was Billy Raymont who was truly in the thick of it with some of the world’s best to finish in 2nd place riding Double J Butler, while in the children’s championship 2nd Qualifier it was Maleah Lang-Mcmahon who dominated the placings. She took out both 1st and 2nd on her trusted Kolora Stud Eric and new horse Kolora Stud Annassi
Queensland also took out the Amateur Final class with April Lovell on board Syndicate II, a beautiful chestnut Hanovarian. This combination have only been together for just over twelve months, but are certainly climbing from strength to strength at the moment.
In the Emerald Series second Qualifier, Billy Raymont took the win on Lissadell Zuba just over two seconds ahead of the field. While Clem Smith placed 2nd in the second Qualifier of the Ruby Series on Sangster.
In the Young Rider Championships Queensland posted some very competitive scores with Brooke Langbecker finsihing 3rd, Kate Hinschen in 4th and Erin Buswell in 6th to secure the team Gold for Queensland!
As the event wrapped up on Sunday Jumping Queensland Chair Rebecca Jenkins was crowned the 2017 Leading Lady Rider after 4 days of stellar results.
