Queenslanders Succeed in Adelaide
Last weekend saw the Australian International 3 Day Event and Equestrian Grand Final held in the beautiful Adelaide Parklands.
Several Queenslanders travelled down for the 4 days of competition; Isabel English (Feldale Mouse) & Charlotte Price (Kinnordy Gambia) contested the CCI**** event, Matthew Gaske (Kolora Stud Triple 8) and Madeline Wilson (I'm Bruce & Mumbo Jumbo) took on the CCI** event, Merrik Ubank (Alantinus) entered the Equestrian Grand Final World Cup Jumping and Kevin McNab flew over from the UK to compete in the Exhibition Eventing aboard Megan Jones' Kirby Park Invader.
After a bumpy start to the trip every Queenslander who began the event came home safe and smiling.
In the CCI4* Isabel English finished in an impressive 8th place on 75.4 penalties and Charlotte Price finished 24th after incurring an unfortunate 20 penalties on course.
In the CCI2* Matt Gaske finished in 36th place on just 93.2 penalties, a remarkable achievement for only his 4th competition on the gelding.
The star of the 3 day event was Madeline Wilson, who piloted both horses round a 6th and 9th on I'm Bruce and Mumbo Jumbo respectively. This also earnt Madeline not only 1st but also 2nd in the annual Young Rider's Championship. Queensland has now won both places in this Championships for the past two years!
Saturday afternoon saw the Gow Gates Exhibition Eventing Equestrian Grand Final. On a borrowed horse Kevin was the fastest rider around the course but a few unfortunate faults left him in 10th place.
On Sunday Merrick Ubank had a $3000 pay day when he piloted Alantinus for the only double clear round of the event to take out the Grand Final.
All in all, it was a great week of competition for Queensland and we are very proud to have such great sports men and women representing us at high calibre events!
