Changes to the Emerging Athlete Pathways (EAP) program

Key changes will provide assistance to even more young athletes, coaches and officials (particularly the reduction of the travel distance by half from 250km to 125km), for events commencing after 1 July 2022.

For events on or after 1 July 2022, the revised program requires young athletes, coaches and officials to:

  • have been selected as an athlete, coach, or official at an eligible State, National or International eligible event
  • be a current resident of Queensland
  • be at least 10 years of age but under 19 years of age at the start of the event
  • be required to travel at least 125km (one-way) from their home to the event location.

Athletes, coaches and officials will be required to provide documentation clearly demonstrating selection with their application. All documentation must be clearly identified as being sent from or published by the event selector or event organiser and may include website, letterhead, signature block or Facebook page, which includes:

  • Confirmation that the athlete, coach or official named in the application form has been selected to the team/role
  • Event name, start date of the event and location of the event.

Revised event eligibility

For events commencing on or after 1 July 2022, the event must require participants to have undergone a selection/qualification process to attend or provide a pathway for athletes (e.g. selection to compete at the nationals undertaken at the state event).

Each sport can include one state, national and international event per age group and division/discipline only.

Updates to the eligible events list

Quarterly updates for the events will be provided by the Department. Any event that is provided to the department with a start date on or after 1 July 2022 must meet the requirements regarding selection/qualification.
