Kate Kyros makes a successful competition return with Intro K in Spain

Australian dressage rider Kate Kyros has returned to the competition arena with Intro K after a three-month break, finishing on the podium in all six Young Rider classes at a two week CDI in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain.

Twenty-year-old Kate Kyros has this month made a trip to sunny Spain to contest CDI Real Escuela in Jerez de la Frontera – a city in the Andalusia region that hosted the 2002 FEI World Equestrian Games.

Kate and 11-year-old KWPN stallion Intro K (Apache x Harmony’s Rousseau) contested the CDI Young Rider classes across two weeks of competition, finishing on the podium on all six occasions and concluding the event with a win.

Week 1

During the first week, Kate and Intro K were second in the CDIY Team and Individual Tests on 66.519% and 68.77% respectively, with Finland’s Peppi Kokko and Windsor V winning the tests on 68.088% and 69.167%. The CDIY Freestyle was incredibly close, with the Aussie combination scoring 70.59% to finish just behind the Finnish combination on 70.93%.

In the CDIY Individual Test, Kate and Intro were again on the podium – this time with 69.951% for third place. Spain’s Carmen Walinksi Weber and Danciella won the class on 70.784%, while Portugal’s Briana Alexandra Vintila and Inana B were second on 70.049%.

However, Kate and the stallion saved their best for the final day of CDI Real Escuela, where their CDIY Freestyle test earned them a score of 71.97% and a place at the top of the podium.

“It has been three months since Intro and I competed together, so it was great to be back in the arena,” said Kate of the pair’s experience in Spain. “The showgrounds were so beautiful, filled with culture and love for horses. I continue to learn so much about international competition and Intro at every event. This was a super way to start our 2025 season.”
